Thompson Merchant Services Review
Merchant Maverick's Rating: (4.5 out of 5)

Last Updated: April 30th, 2010.
Overview:
I didn't find anything that would detract me from doing business with Thompson Merchant Services (TMS). Matter of fact, they actually look pretty good.
I can tell that they're a smaller operation than most other ISO/MSPs, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd much rather work with a small company that gives me their undivided attention, then to get lost in the sea of merchants at the bigger provider.
I love the forum (message boards) that they have on their site...very nice! It's a great way to hear the voice of your customer, which tells me that TMS is listening. The Twitter account is even better.
TMS offers the transparent interchange-plus model of pricing, so be sure to ask for it, and if you're a seasonal merchant, you have the option of shutting your account down for only $19, which isn't bad at all.
TMS gets a 4.5 out of 5 from Merchant Maverick.

Trust Symbols:
Take a look at the Thompson Merchant Services BBB profile. They are an accredited BBB business and have an "A+" rating as of this review with 4 complaints filed against them.
Oh and FYI, they're also a member of the Electronic Transactions Association.
Negative Reviews:
Nothing to speak about in this department. There's only one complaint on RipOffReport, and if you read the whole thing (rebuttals included), you'll see that it seems to be a conflict between the company owner and some folks who did work for TMS.
Take a look at this ComplaintsBoard.com post left by the owner of TMS to get a clearer picture.
Without a decent number of legitimate complaints, I can only conclude that TMS is doing well by its merchants.
Common Complaints:
None.
Verifiable Testimonials/References:
There are a few testimonials listed on the site, but only one of them has the person's full-name and company name, so I can't really do much with that.

Customer Service:
Besides the emailed questions, I've never dealt with Thompson Merchant Services myself, but judging from the lack of complaints, I'd say that they're pretty good.
Contract Duration:
Their rep told me that they don't have any contract duration terms.
Cancellation Fee:
As long as your account is in good standing, you'll be able to cancel without a fee (be sure to read your contract).
Seasonal Downtime:
They do offer seasonal downtime for a $19.00 deactivation fee. It won't cost you anything to reactivate.
Product/Service Offering:
TMS is a full-service ISO/MSP, so you'll find all the usual products and services like; Retail (Credit/Debit), Internet/e-Commerce, Mail Order/Telephone Order (MOTO), Wireless, Check Verification, High-Risk and International, ATM Services, Electronic Donation Payment Services.
Product/Service Specialty:
None.

Thompson Merchant Services has always been a great help to me. As anyone knows there will always come a time when you have some sort of issue that you need help and Joe of Thompson Merchant has always come up to bat to help any time I have run into a snag in my system or with an error in entering sales. I would recommend thompson to anyone!

Hi Blane,
Thanks for the comment. It would be great to hear how exactly Thompson has been the “best CC processor” you’ve worked with. For example, how is the customer service, fees etc…?

Thompson is my third credit card processor in the last 10 years of business. I am a one man mobile bicycle repair business and Thompson is different than my other processors because they charge $20 per month like they said, and there have been no hidden or extra fees for the last 2 years. No annual fee, no quarterly credit check fee, no other fees, just $20 per month. I enter card information on my cell phone and the money is in my account 2 days later. I have had other companies claim they were in town representing Thompson to get me a better rate, but a quick e-mail to Joe proved they were just phishing.
Thanks for continuing to support small business in America!

We have been processing our credit card sales through Thompson for 4 years. We have never had a problem or a concern with them. They are efficient, accurate and less expense than most.
