QuickBooks Desktop Pricing Changes
2021 Pricing | 2022 Pricing | |
---|---|---|
QuickBooks Pro | $299.99/year$399.99/one-time license | $349.99/year |
QuickBooks Premier | $499.99/year$649.99/one-time license | $549.99/year |
QuickBooks Enterprise | $1,213/year | $1,275/year |
QuickBooks Mac | $399.99/one-time license | $349.99/year |
One of the biggest changes for QuickBooks Desktop 2022 is the software’s pricing structure. In previous years, users had two options: purchase a one-time license or pay for an annual subscription.
Unfortunately, QuickBooks has eliminated one-time licenses with the release of QuickBooks Desktop 2022. This means that instead of making a one-time payment, you will be required to pay an annual subscription fee to continue using QuickBooks each year. QuickBooks Desktop pricing has also increased since last year’s release.
However, there are several benefits to this new pricing structure. With your annual subscription, you will always have access to the latest updates, features, and security patches, whereas the old one-time licenses were only supported for three years.
Additionally, customer support is also included as part of your annual subscription. For one-time purchases, a Care plan for an additional fee was required to get full access to customer support.

QuickBooks Desktop 2022 VS QuickBooks Desktop 2021
If you’re still using an older version of QuickBooks Desktop, there are a number of new features available if you upgrade.
The biggest difference between QuickBooks Desktop 2022 and QuickBooks Desktop 2021 is the addition of the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app. Through the years, many users have complained about the lack of mobility, so the addition of a mobile app is a pretty big change. With the mobile app, you’ll be able to upload documents to attach to transactions, import bills, and perform other tasks from your mobile phone.
QuickBooks Desktop 2022 has also improved the way you pay vendors. You can schedule your payment using the vendor’s preferred digital or physical method of payment, receive notifications when the payment has been sent, and have the bill automatically marked as paid within the software.
For online sellers, QuickBooks Desktop 2022 has a Webgility integration available as an add-on that lets you easily connect to your preferred eCommerce solutions.
Another neat new feature is QuickBooks’ payment links. If you don’t need to invoice a customer, you can quickly and easily create a payment link to send to your customers. To use this feature, you must sign up for QuickBooks Payments.
Whether your customers pay an invoice or use your payment link, QuickBooks Desktop 2022 makes it faster and easier to get paid with Instant Payments. Instead of waiting days to access your money, you may qualify for instant deposits on-demand, whether it’s night, a weekend, or even a holiday. This feature is available only to QuickBooks Payments users.
QuickBooks has lots of customization options already built-in, and the latest version of the software includes customizable bill payment stubs. Add your logo, update billing details, and change the format to create a custom payment stub that can be sent to a single vendor or multiple vendors at once.
Finally, a minor (but convenient) feature is the ability to choose from a list of vendors or customers when sending out emails. This eliminates the need for manual data entry, helping to eliminate errors when sending invoices, estimates, or other emails.
Should You Upgrade To QuickBooks 2022?
QuickBooks Desktop 2022 has a lot of exciting new features — most notable, the addition of a mobile app. These new features do come at a cost, since the pricing for QuickBooks Desktop 2022 has increased since the last update. The new pricing structure may also come as a shock for previous users that are used to purchasing one-time licenses.
However, the subscription-only model does have several benefits, including customer support, security patches, and updates for no additional cost. With this new pricing structure, you’ll always have access to the latest version of QuickBooks and all of the newest features.
If you’re currently paying for an annual subscription, you’ll already receive the latest version of QuickBooks once you’ve paid your yearly fee. However, if you have a one-time license, you will need to make a decision: will you stick it out with the older version, upgrade to a new subscription, or look for an alternative to QuickBooks?
If you currently hold a license for an older version of QuickBooks, you can continue to use it. However, please note that support ends after three years, meaning that you will no longer receive updates, the latest features, or security patches. Additionally, some features such as QuickBooks Payroll will no longer be available.
If you aren’t quite ready to jump into the new QuickBooks, you can certainly continue to use your current version until it is no longer supported. However, you won’t be able to take advantage of the new features, unlimited customer support, and other benefits of the new release.
