Home Depot Credit Card Review: All The Business & Personal Credit Cards Offered By Home Depot
Home Depot offers an array of store-specific cards. Each card has its own unique pros & cons, so read on to find out which one is the best fit for your small business.
Store-specific credit cards are a common spending tool these days. Offering unique rewards and special financing, these cards can work for any business. Frequent Home Depot shoppers will be pleased to know that the home improvement store offers an array of store-specific business cards and personal cards.
Because Home Depot offers four such cards — most in conjunction with Citibank — we’ve decided to do a thorough breakdown detailing each card in-depth. Each card offers its own unique pros and cons, so one that might work for a neighboring business may not suit yours.
So which Home Depot card is best for your business? Read below to find out!
Card Name | Best For |

Table of Contents
Home Depot Pro Xtra (Commercial Revolving Charge) Card
Home Depot calls this card a charge card, but it’s not really a true charge card. With a normal charge card, you need to pay off your balance every month. With Home Depot’s Pro Xtra card, you have the additional option to make payments in increments. Do note that taking extra time to pay off your balance will incur an APR, which is also something that doesn’t really exist with a normal charge card.
Pro Xtra Membership
When you get approved for this card, you get automatic Pro Xtra membership. You’ll also earn Pro Xtra points at a 4X rate with your spending — every $1 spent on your card counts as $4 for purposes of earning Perks. These Perks can be redeemed for tool rental charges and for Pro Xtra Dollars, which can be spent in-store.
Welcome Bonus
Home Depot is currently offering a welcome bonus of up to $100 on a qualifying purchase for new Pro Xtra cardholders. You can get $25 off a purchase of $25-$299, $50 off a purchase of $300-$999, or $100 off a purchase of $1000 or more.
Other Perks
You’ll also have the option to pay off purchases up to 60 days after buying without interest. Additionally, you can request employee cards, and there are no annual fees to worry about. Cardmembers also get one full year to make returns, up from Home Depot’s standard three-month return policy.
Note that this card can only be used at Home Depot; it is not a fully-fledged credit card.
Home Depot Commercial Account Credit Card
Home Depot’s Commercial Account Credit Card is, in fact, a charge card.
No APR
This card does not have an APR because it requires that you pay in full every billing period. You do, however, get the option to set a payment period of either 30 or 60 days.
Itemize Invoices
This card lets you itemize your invoices and pay them on an individual basis. You’ll get a 2% early pay discount for all invoices paid online within 20 days of purchase. This card also offers the same welcome bonus offered by the Pro Xtra card: $25 off a purchase of $25-$299, $50 off a purchase of $300-$999, or $100 off a purchase of $1000 or more.
Other Perks
You can also hand out employee cards, and there is no annual fee attached to this card. You’ll further be able to return items up to one year after purchase; that’s four times longer than Home Depot’s regular return policy.
Because this card is only available for use at Home Depot note that it is not a full-on credit card.
Home Depot Consumer Credit Card
For general consumers, Home Depot has crafted its Consumer Credit Card. While this card is not specifically aimed at businesses, you could still use it on purchases to utilize its benefits.
Financing Benefits
The highlight of this card is special financing benefits. You’ll be able to get everyday financing for the first six months on purchases of $299 or above. This means you won’t pay interest if you pay off the purchase in full within six months; however, interest will be charged from the date of purchase if you don’t pay in full within six months. This card also offers the same welcome bonus offered by the two cards above: $25 off a purchase of $25-$299, $50 off a purchase of $300-$999, or $100 off a purchase of $1000+.
Extended Financing
Home Depot also regularly features other special financing offers that can give you special financing for up to 24 months. You’ll need to make purchases in specific categories (like appliances, mowers, or installed fencing) to take advantage of extended financing.
Unfortunately, this card does not offer any sort of rewards program. On the plus side, however, you won’t need to pay an annual fee. You’ll also get access to exclusive offers and the ability to return items up to one year after purchase.
Just like with the two business-angled cards, the Consumer Credit Card is only available for use at Home Depot.
Home Depot Project Loan Card
Not really a credit card, this offering from Home Depot lets you apply for a loan that you can then use to make purchases at the home improvement store. Unlike the three above cards (which are offered through Citibank), Home Depot has teamed up with GreenSky for this card.
Repayment Schedules
Once you apply for a loan and are approved, you’ll have up to 114 months to repay. The amount you’ll be required to pay varies depending on how much you request and the card’s fixed APR. This APR is determined by the repayment schedule you choose — a 114-month repayment schedule carries a 19.96% APR while a 66-month repayment schedule carries a 7.42% APR (and there are options in-between).
You can apply for a credit line of up to $55,000.
No Annual Fees
Note that after you are approved for this card, you’ll have a six-month window to purchase products or installation services. There are no annual fees to worry about with the Project Loan Card. However, because it is technically a loan, don’t expect any rewards like you might receive with a normal credit card. Note that the welcome bonus offered with the other three cards listed here is not offered with this card.
How To Qualify For A Home Depot Credit Card
To qualify for Home Depot’s credit cards, you’ll want to have at least a fair credit score that’s in the upper 600s. Note that this is not a hard and fast rule; your full credit history will be considered, so you may qualify with a lower-than-average score or you may be rejected with a higher score.

Which Home Depot Card Should I Get?
Like with many credit cards, the right Home Depot card will vary depending on the user. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- If you are looking for a Home Depot-specific card with rewards and the potential to delay paying interest, then go with the Home Depot Pro Xtra (Commercial Revolving Charge) Card.
- If you want rewards, but don’t want to deal with interest, then the Home Depot Commercial Account Credit Card may be your best route.
- If you are looking for even better financing alternatives and don’t care about rewards, then look into the Home Depot Consumer Credit Card.
- If you need money for a specific project and don’t plan to shop at Home Depot on a regular basis, then the Home Depot Project Loan Card is an option. Of course, it’s technically a loan that you’ll be paying interest on. As such, only apply if you lack the money now but can afford the extra costs in the long term.
Remember, these cards cannot be used outside of Home Depot. If you’re looking for your business’s next fully-fledged credit card, check out this post featuring our favorite business credit cards. Those that are needing money for a specific project can also look into getting a small business loan.
