How Does Merchant Focus Compare?
Take a look at how Merchant Focus stacks up against some of the best credit card processors we've reviewed.
*All of our preferred processors use fully transparent
pricing rather than tiered pricing. What We Look For In A Merchant Account Provider
- No early termination fees: Credit card processors use expensive early termination fees to lock you into your account for several years. We think that your merchant account provider should have to earn your business every month, so we only recommend providers that offer month-to-month contracts. A small account closure fee can sometimes be acceptable, however.
- Interchange-plus pricing: One of the best-kept secrets in credit card processing is interchange-plus (cost-plus) pricing. All processors have to pay some baseline "wholesale" costs to the credit card networks, and these rates are generally the same for all processors. The variable is the "markup" added onto these wholesale rates. Interchange-plus separates the wholesale from the markup. Membership (or subscription) pricing is a variant of interchange-plus where the entire markup is charged as a single flat monthly fee. Flat-rate pricing (like Square offers) where the markup is not separated is sometimes a good deal for low-volume business. Tiered pricing (where different flat rates are charged for different transaction "tiers") is the least transparent option and we never recommend it. Learn more about interchange-plus, membership, flat-rate, and tiered pricing, or see our complete rate and fees infographic.
- A long-standing good reputation: New merchant account providers are popping up all the time and they all provide very similar service offers. How do you know which ones you can trust? For us, seeing a long-term reputation of satisfied customers is critical. We also spend a lot of time verifying that the reputation is real and not created by fake reviews.
- Clear and accurate advertising practices: Even good service can be a problem if a merchant services provider is using unrealistic promises or gimmicks to gain your business. That's why it's important to us that our preferred credit card processors are 100% honest and transparent with both their marketing and their sales practices.
- High-quality support: Processing credit cards sometimes comes with unavoidable problems. Maybe some software or hardware is misbehaving, making there was a problem with your customer's payment method. We want to make sure that your payment processor is able to help you resolve these issues quickly and effectively.

Are You Processing $5,000 Or Less Per Month?
For low-volume businesses, a service like Square is likely to be the cheapest and simplest option. But if you'd prefer to have a higher level of stability, better support, and room to grow, then signing up for a traditional merchant account could still make sense.
I wish I could give a negative star rating instead! This company ripped me off. I had terminated with them using the form they provided by Drew (account manager), and for some reason there has been charges every single month after that. I had to close out my bank account because they didn’t stop this. I called and emailed and all he could say was that they received the termination form, that does not explain these charges. I advice you to use another payment processor.

I sell a number of services, credit repair, credit card funding services, and business entity formation. I am looking for a $99 membership payment processor. My company generally charges a fee, to connect clients with various services, banking, credit offers, repair, business credit, etc. I have a low CB rate… and there are so many processors on your site not sure which to set up with. I am setting up easypaydirect.com since they are high risk, considering Payline as well. I dont consider my self high risk, but maybe this is where I need to start.
I need virtual terminal, and gateway for online sales.
I have other payment options, but I could process 5k+ mo or as high as 50k. I just want to get an account running, without shut down. First Data shut me down first week.
I thought about getting several mobile processors and staying under 5k until I have a history.
Also, whos the best processor for a company that does digital media and lead generation services… billing ranges from $100-$1200. Marketing services industry. (NO SEO)
Invoices are getting behind to often, and want to charge credit cards making it easy for clients to pay me.

From authorize.net’s website, they recommended Merchant Focus if we sell on eBay or Overstock. They say it’s fully integrated with eBay. Is there any other merchant accounts out there that will work with eBay? Should I play it safe and go with Merchant Focus? We had contacted CDG and they say they don’t do eBay. eBay only tells us that Authorize.net, cybersource or payflow are the only gateways they accept, and that we need a merchant account. Wish they would tell us also what merchant accounts work, since I’m starting to realize not all merchant accounts will accept ebay sales.

Hi Danny,
To be honest I don’t have a lot of experiencing helping merchants select account providers for eBay Checkout, so I’m not sure which merchant account providers will integrate smoothly. But here’s my feeling on the matter: Merchant Focus is reliable and trustworthy, and their forefront relationship with Authorize.net makes me confident in that partnership. Signing up with Merchant Focus will get you gateway access with no gateway setup fee and a $15 monthly gateway fee (plus a $10 monthly account fee for the merchant account). Depending on your monthly volume, you may be able to negotiate a good interchange plus plan. So, to my mind, I’d probably take Authorize.net’s suggestion and go to Merchant Focus.
If we can help you further, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Good luck,
Tom
