Team Bio Series – Chelsea Krause (Never Enough Coffee)
Accounting software isn’t necessarily the easiest thing to understand. Lucky for us (and for you!), we have Chelsea to break it down. Her current expertise in accounting software stemmed from her desire to always be learning something new. She is motivated by wanting to understand how things work. On our part, we wanted to understand what makes her tick, so we virtually sat down with her to find out.
Name: Chelsea Krause
Title: Head Accounting and Invoicing Writer
Hometown: Santa Rosa, CA
Current city: Boise, ID
Education and background: I have a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing; I studied abroad at the University of Oxford.
Merchant Maverick department/specialty: I head the accounting and invoicing departments. I write about anything and everything accounting-related and try my best to make a normally boring and confusing topic like accounting interesting and easy enough for the everyday business owner to understand.
How did you discover Merchant Maverick?: Like quite a few other of our writers, I first heard about Merchant Maverick from a classmate in college who worked for Merchant Maverick. Fun fact: Liz (our eCommerce writer), Levi (of merchant accounts), and I actually used to work together in college too!
Proudest professional moment: I just finished an accounting eBook, which I am really excited about! 170 pages (and nearly a hundred coffees) later and I couldn’t be more proud.
Favorite Merchant Maverick post/moment/opportunity: My favorite Merchant Maverick moment was when I got the first comment from a reader on a post I’d written. That’s the moment I realized my reviews and posts are making a difference for small business owners. I loved that feeling–it’s what keeps me writing.
What do you do when you’re not working for Merchant Maverick?: I love going hiking and exploring the outdoors with my husband, but lately it’s been a million degrees out, so I’ve been hiding from the sun, reading books, and watching movies. I also love baking and watching a ridiculous amount of the Great British Bake Off. Right now my favorite recipe book is called “An Unexpected Cookbook: The Unofficial Book of Hobbit Cookery.” So far, I’ve learned that hobbits definitely had it right with second breakfast and elevensies.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color are you and why?: Campfire Orange. I absolutely love campfires. I could stare at their mesmerizing patterns for hours and whenever I have campfire, I always feel incredibly peaceful, happy, and warm. I’d want to be this crayon because I hope that I can always leave people feeling peaceful, happy, and warm too.
Favorite ‘90s movie: Tarzan! I love Disney movies, and you just can’t beat Phil Collins.
Favorite ice cream flavor?: Tillamook Mudslide.
What are three items on your bucket list?: Seeing the aurora borealis, revisiting England, and writing a novel.
Who would win in a fight between Spiderman and Batman? Spiderman! I might lose friends over this, but I’ve never been much of a Batman fan (sorry to our managing editor, Julie).
Mac or Windows?: I used an old dinosaur Mac to survive college, but have recently retired my Mac and now use Windows. I like really my PC so far, but I judge a computer on whether or not I have to recharge the battery while I’m at a coffee shop, so…
If you could either become invisible whenever you wanted or be able to fly, which would you choose and why?: Flying! How could you say no to feeling the wind in your hair, weaving through the pines, being above the mountains and one with the stars?
The coffee addiction is real with this one. If Julie really does disown her over the Spiderman thing, I think her love of Tillamook Mudslide just might help smooth things over. I’m calling it…next dinner party is at Chelsea’s!
