Construction is a massive industry. According to Marketplace’s summary of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 8.8% of the US workforce are employed in construction, natural resources, and maintenance occupations. What’s more, the construction industry is expected to reach a value of $1,428.5 billion by 2024.

With so many people employed in construction and the increasing value of the industry, it is critical that construction businesses find a smooth way to manage and organize projects. Project management isn’t just for the office; it’s for the job site too. And when it comes to project management software, construction businesses need access to even more features than the typical office.

Project managers in construction need a powerful set of tools at their disposal. They need tools for communicating with contractors and clients as well as blueprint viewing features, daily report features, and document storage. Beyond that, construction workers need features for time tracking, resource tracking, and job costing. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the four best project management apps for construction workers.

3. Raken

Raken

Best for large construction companies that need a solution for daily reports.

Raken is designed to make daily reporting easier and faster. This software is intended for large-scale construction businesses (building retail properties, hospitals, etc.), and it is not well suited to home builders. Raken is currently used by over 4,000 construction companies, including Level 10 Construction, Danforth, and Barton Malow.

Raken’s primary purpose is to streamline daily reporting. Using this tool, all your workers in the field can track their activities throughout the day, resulting in more accurate and less time-consuming reporting. You can also use Raken to track progress, time cards, and use of materials. Unlike a couple of the other software on this list, Raken does not have features for requesting or accepting bids, which means its not a good option for many home builders.

Pros

  • Time tracking included
  • Streamline daily reporting
  • Production tracking

Cons

  • No bidding features
  • Per-user pricing can be costly with a large team

Raken Pricing

Pricing for Raken is based on the number of users you have on the platform as well as the features you need to access. Fortunately, all plans include unlimited projects. Plans are billed per user per month, although there is an option for annual billing, which saves you 20%.

4. Fieldwire

Fieldwire

Visit Site

Best for managing and viewing blueprints on mobile devices.

Fieldwire is not, strictly speaking, a project management solution. Instead, it could be described as a “blueprint management solution.” Fieldwire is designed to help keep track of blueprints and construction plans on a job site. Fieldwire is built for general contractors, specialty contractors, owners, architects, and designers.

In addition to blueprint viewing features, Fieldwire can be used for reporting and time tracking. It is designed for mobile use, which makes it a natural addition to many employees’ daily work. Fieldwire is used by over 750,000 job sites worldwide, including large projects, such as the construction of a technological hub at Washington State University and a renovation of the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Springs.

Pros

  • Mobile-first design
  • View blueprints and drawings
  • Document work within the app

Cons

  • Cannot add clients or guests to the software
  • Must pay more for access to advanced features

Fieldwire Pricing

Fieldwire is priced per user per month, with plans billed monthly or annually, depending on the number of licenses your business purchases. Annual rates are lower than monthly rates.

There are three premium pricing plans available, ranging from $44/user/month to $104/user/month (when billed monthly). Each step up in pricing includes access to more advanced features, such as API access, SSO, 360-degree photos, and more.

There is also a free plan available for businesses with five users or fewer. This basic plan includes features for task management, file sharing, messaging, photos, and checklists. On this plan, you can track 100 sheets and three projects.

There is also a custom plan available for businesses with over 50 licenses.

Features

construction project management software

Looking For One Of These Names?

The following software options are popular project management applications that work excellently in office contexts. However, when it comes to construction management, they don’t make the cut. Although these software applications are great for planning, scheduling, and assigning tasks, they do not offer many of the primary features you find in construction management software. For these features, you should look to one of the software we describe above.

monday.com

monday.com is an easy-to-use and visually-appealing project management software. Businesses use this software to organize teams and plan projects on Kanban boards, Gantt charts, and calendar views.

While monday.com is a good option for office work, it does not translate well to the job site. There are no construction-specific features, such as tools for creating and accepting bids, communicating with clients, or viewing blueprints. Construction businesses will find this software to be very limited.

Wrike

Wrike is another project management software designed for office use. This software lets you plan and track projects. You can also use resource management tools to see how much work each team member already has assigned to them.

Unfortunately, Wrike is not suited for use in construction management. You won’t find any construction-specific features, such as daily reporting and material tracking, which makes the software almost useless on the job site.

Choosing The Right Construction Project Management App

As you consider which construction management software to use for your business, you should keep in mind the types of projects you typically manage.

Remodelers and home builders will prefer software that includes a client-facing portal and the ability to create and solicit bids. For these builders, CoConstruct and Buildertrend are good options.

On the other hand, companies that do large-scale projects (retail spaces, hospitals, etc.) should look into software options with blueprint viewing features and on-the-job communication tools. Raken and Fieldwire are both designed for use on larger projects, and they are good options for this size of a construction company.

Once you’ve selected a couple of construction management software for your business, reach out to each software company and find out if they offer demos or trials of their software. Just a brief demo of the software can give you a lot of information about whether or not the software is the right fit for your business. And if there isn’t a trial available, find out if they offer a money-back guarantee. It’s in your best interest to do some testing of the software before you fully commit to it.

Best of luck finding a great construction management software for your business. The right software can streamline your day-to-day operations, reduce the time you spend completing and tracking paperwork, and make your projects run smoother. It’s worth taking the time to find the perfect solution!

Great article! Iโ€™m looking for an app to manage my construction companyโ€™s tasks/financials and this article was very helpful. The one thing I would point out is that I was very interested in buildertrend based off of your review but it appears as though they may have changed their pricing. According to their site they are now $299/month for the first three users plus $39/month for each additional user. Thatโ€™s a lot more than the $99/month unlimited user quoted in the article. It does look like they do now offer free trials as well so thatโ€™s a positive I guess but the price change may prohibit me from moving forward with them.
